Louisiana 36, Madison 28

Madison, Wis. - The Madison Mad Dogs fourth quarter rally fell short as they dropped their season opener to the Louisiana Bayou Beast 36-28 in front of 4,283 fans at the Dane County Coliseum Friday night.

Three field goals by Beast Kicker Matt Huerkamp (LSU) proved to be the difference in the game. The Mad Dogs had the ball inside the Beast 20-yard line 9 times and scored on three of those occasions.

Mad Dogs receiver Derek Schaefer had 5 receptions for 57 yards, two touchdowns and two 2-point conversion catches to help lead the Mad Dog offensive attack.

"Defensively, we made some plays, but we didn't stop 'em when we had to," said Mad Dogs Coach Dick Adams. "I can think of three defensive mistakes we made that cost us 18 points. The field goal part of it hurt us, too. We had a chance to stay in it, and we didn't make 'em while their guy did."

The Madison Mad Dogs will have another crack at the Louisiana Bayou Beast this coming Sunday, April19th, in a 2:00 p.m. game at the Peter Maravich Event Center Arena on the campus of LSU.
