The Mad Dogs moved into second place with a 54-18 win over the Colorado Wildcats Saturday. Mad Dogs quarterback Raymond Philyaw figured in six Mad Dogs' scores, passing for four touchdowns and running for two more. Philyaw's show was witnessed by 5,562 fans, the largest PIFL crowd in the league's history.
The Mad Dogs' defense held the Wildcats' offense to 126 net yards and held the Cats to 4-13 on third down attempts. The defense sacked quarterback Tim Wright six times. Defensive lineman Taiwan Temple finished with eight tackles and two sacks. Linebacker Jose Salcido added 3.5 sacks and three other tackles. Lineman Jeff Warner finished with five tackles and one interception which he returned for a touchdown.
The Madison offense racked up 238 net yards, 109 through the air and 129 on the ground. Philyaw finished with 109 passing yards and 15 on the ground. Wide receiver Mandrill Dean caught five passes for 72 yards and three touchdowns.
The Colorado offense was led by wide receiver Antonio Chandler, who finished with four receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Bucky Logan added two receptions for 27 yards and one touchdown.
The win is crucial in establishing home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs on August 8th. The top two teams host the bottom two seeds with the winners of those games advancing to the league championship game in Louisiana on August 15th.
The Mad Dogs have a bye for the week of July 25th and square off with the Utah Catzz to clinch home field advantage August 8th at 7:30 p.m. The Colorado Wildcats remain on the road as they will face the Green Bay Bombers July 25th.
