The Austin Wranglers, after spending four years in the AFL, moved down to the af2. After getting blasted in their first three games, the Wranglers rebounded to win eight of their next eleven games. The last win of the season came in overtime at Lubbock. Mel Long and John Roberson led the team at wide receiver, both catching over 1,000 yards and a combined 59 touchdowns. The team dropped its final two regular season contests and became the eighth seed for the playoffs. The Spokane Shock routed the Wranglers 42-14 in the first round playoff game. The team folded following their only season in af2.
