The Cape Fear Wildcats were one of the more successful franchises in AF2 history. In their first season, the team finished 13-3, going all the way to the semifinals where they would play the Florida Firecats. They lost 43-29, but would return to the postseason the following year. However, this time they would not go as deep, losing in the first round to Macon. A relentless team, the Wildcats would enter the postseason again in 2004. They would beat Birmingham 54-53 and then lose to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 40-37. 2004 would be the only season where the Wildcats didn’t win a division title. Following the 2004 season, the franchise moved to Georgia to become the South Georgia Wildcats. However, football would continue in Fayetteville, with the Guard of the NIFL.
