The Lincoln Lightning were acquired by the AFL when the IFL ceased operations. The team had enjoyed success in the past, making it to the 1999 IFL Championship game. However, the same would not be true in the AF2. In their only season, the Lightning would go 6-10, winning four of their last six. It was not enough, as the team would fold after the 2001 season.
