The Bossier-Shreveport Battlewings moved to the new AFL after spending nine years in the af2. The af2 seasons were mostly dismal, with a few exceptions. It was a return to the basement in 2010, however, as the team went 3-13. Ramond Philyaw led the team for half of the year, throwing for 43 touchdowns and five picks, before suffering an injury. The team tried unsuccessfully to replace him, as four subsequent starters combined for 49 touchdowns and 15 picks. PJ Berry was the star of the wide receivers, catching 118 balls and 33 touchdowns. Randy Hymes and James Jordan both caught 18, being the only other two receivers to score more than nine times. The defense was a huge problem, as the Battlewings surrendered 1,030 total points, second worst in AFL history (and in the season). The straw that broke the camel's back came in Oklahoma City. The Battlewings led the Yard Dawgz, 79-75 with under a minute to go. The Battlewings also had the ball, but decided to kick a field goal on fourth down. The kick was blocked and returned for a touchdown with 33 seconds left. The subsequent kickoff was mishandled, fumbled, and Oklahoma scored again as time expired. The final score was 88-79.
