The Wyoming Mustangs were an expansion team for the 2021 season. After an inaugural 20-18 loss to Dodge City, the only wins the team got were against Dodge City and Wichita. All other games were blowout losses, including dropping the final three regular season games by a combined 119 points. The team returned in 2022 to similar results, going 3-7 in the regular season. Eric Caldwell quarterbacked the team, passing for 745 yards, fifteen touchdowns and fifteen interceptions. Tabyus Taylor netted 506 rushing yards and sixteen scores. Rashad Ridley led all wide receivers with nine touchdowns and 328 yards. A one yard touchdown run with no time left on the clock gave the Mustangs a 38-37 victory against winless Topeka, which would ultimately be the difference between a playoff berth and the end of the season. Wyoming traveled to Billings in the first round and lost 49-40, with a late Charles McCullum touchdown run sealing the loss. Aaron Aiken quarterbacked the team in 2023, though statistics were not complete for the season. Jayden Jefferson ran for 350 yards and eleven touchdowns. Karonce Higgins caught 36 passes for 624 yards and fourteen touchdowns. The team went 7-3 in the regular season and hosted a playoff game against Southwest Kansas, defeating the Storm 40-35 before falling on the road at Salina 37-30.
