The Miami Valley Silverbacks did not enjoy much success in their first year with the CIFL. A 51-48 win over Marion early in the year would turn out to be the highlight. The team lost four games by one score and two by one point. The Silverbacks qualified for the postseason and lost to Chicago for the third time, 60-26. The team returned in 2008, but was once again very subpar. This time, the team won just three games against New Jersey, Milwaukee, and Fort Wayne. The team quietly ceased operations after the 2008 season. However, when the Huntington franchise was expelled from the league, the CIFL needed a team to fill the schedule gap. The Silverbacks were reborn, with tentative home dates. Two games were played at Hobart Arena and one reported attendance figure of 847 was recorded. The team was competitive in only two games, against Milwaukee and Fort Wayne. The team was scheduled to fold, but after an expansion team collapsed prior to the 2010 season, the Silverbacks came back as a road-only team. As far as road-only teams go, Miami Valley was very competitive, losing by an average score of 40-34 and outsocring opponents in the second and fourth quarters. The best quarterback that the team fielded was Kyenes Mincy, who threw for 15 touchdowns and 6 picks, while rushing for four more scores. Mincy also led the team in net rushing yards, with 244. Daniel Stover led the team at wide receiver, securing 20 catches for 321 yards and nine scores. The most notable game for the Silverbacks may have been their loss in Cincinnati, in which a 32-6 halftime deficit ended up being just a 58-50 victory for the Commandos. The most surprising win was a 22-18 victory in Wisconsin, as the Silverbacks returned a missed field goal return with no time remaining in the game. With the demise of the Marion Mayhem, the Silverbacks were recruited to be the fourth playoff team in the CIFL postseason. With Mincy out with a separated shoulder, the Commandos would easily double up Miami Valley 48-24. The team moved to Dayton for its sixth season. Season six was much like the previous five for the rebranded Silverbacks. Of the many quarterbacks the team used, Jeremy Greenleaf and Bruce Jones were the most effective, combining to throw for 708 yards, 16 touchdowns and eight picks. In four of the team's five losses, the Silverbacks produced 15 points or less. The four wins came against Chicago and Indianapolis. Daniel Stover and Melvin Bryant led the team at receiving with 17 touchdowns and 767 yards. The Silverbacks defense did not do terribly, giving up just 29 points per game. Chris Repress made eight of the team's 23 interceptions. Dayton qualified for the CIFL playoffs and lost to the Marion Blue Racers. The team returned in 2012, this time with a winning season. The team blasted past all competition, except for a road loss at Saginaw. The two teams met two weeks later for the CIFL championship, as playoffs were contracted from four teams to two. Dayton fell 35-7 at Saginaw.
