The Billings Wolves were a 2015 IFL expansion team coached by none other than Chris Dixon. Despite Darakata Britt throwing for 33 scores to just six picks and adding eight rushing touchdowns, the Wolves went 5-9. Two of the franchise's first three games were losses in overtime and the Wolves fell in OT three times total. By season's end, though, Billings showed improvement by winning four of their last five. The Wolves were the first team to play in Billings following the Outlaws' IFL title game appearance after the original MetraPark was destroyed in a tornado. The Wolves returned in 2016 and posted an 8-8 regular season record, qualifying for the playoffs. Mason Espinosa and Darkata Britt spent the most time at quarterback, combining for 31 touchdowns to 14 picks and 1,800 yards. Willie Downs was on the receiving end of 13 scores and Cory Murphy tacked on 19 rushing scores. Despite a .500 season, the Wolves knocked off Spokane twice during the campaign, including the final week. Cory Murphy was picked three times in the playoff game against Nebraska, a 64-52 Danger victory that ended the Wolves' season. The team folded after the 2016 campaign.
