The Tucson Sugar Skulls were a 2019 expansion franchise owned by Kevin Guy. Following the inaugural 7-7 regular season, the Sugar Skulls made the playoffs and fell at the hands of Sioux Falls in the first round of the playoffs. Following the COVID-19 cancelled 2020 season, Dixie Wooten was hired as head coach and general manager. Tucson went 6-8 and missed the postseason. Daquan Neal quarterbacked the Sugar Skulls in 2022 and passed for 2,342 yards, 50 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Carrington Thmpson led all receivers with fifteen touchdowns, while Arther Jackson snagged twelve and Quinton Pedroza eleven. Mike Jones posted 718 rushing yards and an astounding 37 touchdowns. With a 9-7 record, the team entered the playoffs and fell at Northern Arizona 49-30. The team returned in 2023, quarterbacked by Ramone Atkins. He threw for 1,983 yards, 37 touchdowns and eleven interceptions. Carrington Thompson, by far, led all other wide receivers, bringing in 24 touchdowns on 86 catches. The team went 9-6 and again qualified for the playoffs, but fell in the first round to eventual champions Bay Area.
