After starting the year 4-3, the Bismarck Blaze burnt their last seven regular season opponents, all by double digits. These wins included a 42-19 drubbing of Fargo followed by an 87-26 victory over Casper. The Blaze stretched their winning streak to nine with playoff blowouts over Topeka and Sioux City. Bismarck would not make it ten in a row, as Peoria gave the Blaze a taste of their own medicine via a 69-42 pounding in the Gold Cup game. When the IFL was bought out by the AFL, Bismarck did not get a team. A team resurfaced in the NIFL for the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
