After leaving the SIFL, the Rio Grande Valley Magic joined the LSFL for the 2012 season. Billy Garza quarterbacked the team for the whole year, throwing for 3,287 yards, 64 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. Danny Young caught 95 balls for 1,395 yards and 28 touchdowns. The defense held teams to a 36% third down conversion rate. The team scored and allowed the same number of points. The Magic won five of its first seven and lost four of its last five to finish the regular season at 6-6. Laredo would be the first round playoff opponent. After going 1-3 against the Rattlesnakes in the regular season, the Magic upended Laredo on the road with a last second touchdown pass, 50-47. The team advanced to the LSFL championship game in San Angelo and faced the Amarillo Venom. The teams had last met in late May, where the Magic held on for a 74-73 victory. However, after a scoreless first quarter and close first half, the Venom used a 40-20 second half to defeat the Magic 62-40.
