The Massachusetts Pirates were the first attempt at indoor football in Worcester. An 11-5 regular season led to a home playoff game and loss to Columbus. Sean Brackett was the quarterback in 2018, throwing for 3,170 yards, 74 scores and 18 picks. Lavon Pearson led all receivers with 1,011 yards and 22 scores, while Devonn Brown also topped the 1,000 receiving yardage mark. The team returned in 2019 and went 8-6 with another first round playoff loss at Jacksonville. The loss came after a near touchdown with two seconds left, but sideline interference was ruled and a final pass went over the head of the intended receiver. Following this season, the team left for the IFL.
