The Austin Knights enjoyed just one good season in the NIFL. After a three-game losing streak to open the season, the Knights won nine of their final eleven, including a couple of one-point nail-biters over Mississippi and Houma. Despite the good record, the team did not qualify for the postseason. In 2003, the team name was changed to the Rockers. Unfortunately, this would do nothing to help the team win. The Rockers went 7-7, with several blowout losses and a few close ones, too. The highlight of the season was a 57-8 thumping of Evansville. The franchise folded after the 2003 season due to the AFL announcing that the Austin Wranglers would play in 2004.
