The Alabama Hammers were the first Huntsville indoor football team since the af2 left the area. The Hammers drew well on attendance, but did not perform well on the field. The team's wins came against the Carolina Speed, and then two semipro replacement teams sent in to replace Fayetteville and the defunct Mobile Bay Tarpons. One road game was cancelled, resulting in an eleven game regular season. Former af2 Tennessee Valley Viper star Kevin Easkin quarterbacked four games for the new team before moving on. Eakin threw for 662 yards, 18 touchdowns and five picks. Another indoor veteran, Bill Ashburn took over after that, throwing for 23 touchdowns and nine picks. Germico McSwain snagged 26 touchdowns on 61 catches, while Maurice Dupree and Charles McClain each caught ten scores. McClain was also the team's leading rusher, netting 100 yards and eight touchdowns. The team was penalized 105 times on the year and allowed 27 sacks. The Hammers competed well with the Albany Panthers, losing 86-70 and 68-51, but were by and large blown out in most contests.
