The Black Hills Red Dogs moved to the UIF after spending four years in the NIFL. The team did not perform well at all in their UIF debut year, winning just one game, against Omaha. Following this miserable season, the team folded. The Black Hills received a second NIFL franchise in 2006, called the Flying Aces.
