The Northern Kentucky River Monsters were an inaugural UIFL team in 2011. Quarterback Jared Lorenzen. The approximately 400lb passer threw for 3,306 yards, 76 touchdowns and 19 picks in 13 games. He ran for another 12 scores, tieing Maurice Douse's rushing output. Three receivers caught 20 touchdowns or more: Harry Lewis, Willie Idlette, and Ricardo Lenhart. Tez Morris and Brett Hamblen both intercepted seven passes, with Hamblen returning one for a touchdown. The River Monsters blasted through the regular season, outscoring opponents by usually two or more touchdowns. However, the UIFL sanctioned Northern Kentucky for overpaying players. The team lost its top seed for the playoffs and instead was forced to travel to Saginaw for the semifinal. After taking a 13-0 lead, the River Monsters got into a shootout with the Saginaw Sting, losing 48-47.
