The Saginaw Sting joined the UIFL for the 2011 season, led by Tommy Jones. Jones threw for 3,400 yards, 87 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions. Zac Nichols and LaVaughn Macon combined to catch 57 touchdowns and 2,197 yards. The team played several close games, going 6-3 in games decided by eight points or less. This included a 48-47 playoff victory over the Northern Kentucky River Monsters. The team advanced to the UIFL title game and defeated the Eastern Kentucky Drillers, 86-69 to claim the inaugural UIFL championship.
